Bastille Day or French National Day

This day marks the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789 which is a turning point of the French Revolution.


1636 – The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan appointed Aurangzeb as the Viceroy of the Deccan

Aurangzeb was appointed the Viceroy of Deccan by his father and Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Aurangzeb, the son of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, was the sixth Mughal Emperor of India.


1789- Bastille Day

On this day in 1789, a mob advanced on the Bastille in Paris, demanding the arms and munitions stored there, but, when the guards resisted, the crowd captured the prison, an act that symbolized the end of the ancien régime.


1853- World's Fair

The Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations was a World's Fair held in 1853 in what is now Bryant Park in New York City, in the wake of the highly successful 1851 Great Exhibition in London.


1942 - British Quit India resolution is passed by the Congress Working Committee.

On 14 July 1942, the Congress Working Committee met again at Wardha and resolved that it would authorise Gandhi to take charge of the non-violent mass movement. The Resolution, generally referred to as the 'Quit India' resolution, was to be approved by the All India Congress Committee meeting in Bombay in August.


2013 - The world's last telegram was sent as India's state-run telecommunications company ended its telegraph service.

The last telegram message in India was sent on July 14, 2013, by Ashwani Mishra to Rahul Gandhi. From the starting of the telegram service in India, it served for a good long 163 years.


2015 – NASA’s New Horizons became the first spacecraft to visit Pluto

NASA's New Horizons spacecraft was the first spacecraft to explore Pluto up close, flying by the dwarf planet and its moons on July 14, 2015. In early 2019, New Horizons flew past its second major science target – Arrokoth (2014 MU69), the most distant object ever explored up close.

1. 1856 - Gopal Ganesh Agarkar
Gopal Ganesh Agarkar was a social reformer, educationist, and thinker from Maharashtra, India. At one time a close associate of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, he co-founded educational institutes such as the New English School, the Deccan Education Society and Fergusson College. He was the first editor of the weekly Kesari newspaper and founder and editor of a periodical, Sudharak. 

2. 1945 - Shiv Nadar

Shiv Nadar is an Indian billionaire industrialist and philanthropist. He is the founder and chairman emeritus of HCL Technologies and the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Nadar founded HCL Tech in the mid-1970s and transformed the IT hardware company into an IT enterprise over the next three decades.
