1803 – Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Alexander Duff started the Scottish Church College

Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Alexander Duff established the Scottish Church College. Raja Ram Mohan Roy the Indian social and educational reformer is regarded as the "Father of the Indian Renaissance".


1878 - The Treaty of Berlin was signed—replacing the Treaty of San Stefano, which had ended the last of the Russo-Turkish wars.


1929 – Jatindra Nath Das started the historic hunger strike which lasted 63 days.

Jatindranath Das, also known as Jatin Das was an Indian revolutionary who was arrested by the British on 14th June 1929. He was found guilty with the Lahore Conspiracy case. He died in prison after 63 days of hunger strike.


1931 - Kashmir Martyrs' Day

Kashmir Day, was a former official state holiday observed in Kashmir in remembrance of 21 Muslim protesters killed on 13 July 1931 by Dogra forces of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir.


1974 – India played their first ODI against England at Headingley.

The First ODI was played on 13 July at Headingley. England won the toss and put India in to bat. India scored 265 all out, bowled out with 7 balls to bowl. England reached their victory target with 6 wickets down and 23 balls to spare.


2011 – The country’s financial capital Mumbai was shaken by the triple bomb blasts

The 2011 Mumbai bombings, also known as 13/7, were a series of three coordinated bomb explosions at different locations in Mumbai, India, on 13 July 2011 between 18:54 and 19:06 IST. The blasts occurred at the Opera House, at Zaveri Bazaar and at Dadar West localities, leaving 26 killed and 130 injured.

1. 2004 - Nihal Sarin
Nihal Sarin is an Indian chess grandmaster and chess prodigy. In 2018, he passed the Elo rating of 2600 at 14 years old, which at the time made him the third youngest player in history to do so. As a junior player, Nihal was the World Under-10 champion in 2014.
