What happened on 10 July in History:  Someone has rightly said that history is not made in a day! But, one day can bring many changes in history.

1553 - Lady Jane Grey, the 15-year-old great-granddaughter of Henry VII, became queen of England, but her reign lasted only nine days, and she was executed by Mary Tudor the following year.

1800 - The British Indian Government establishes the Fort William College to promote Urdu, Hindi and other vernaculars of sub continent.

1806 - Vellore Mutiny outbreak occurs against the British by sepoys at Vellore (now in Tamil Nadu state, southern India)

The 69th command's 115 Englishmen and 14 British officers were slain by sepoys on July 10, 1806. At midnight, the mutiny began, and by daylight, they had taken control of the fort. On top of the fort, they hoisted the Mysore Sultanate flag.

1947 - Muhammad Ali Jinnah is recommended as the first Governor General of Pakistan by then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Clement Attlee.

1962 - Telstar 1 launched

Telstar 1, the first communications satellite to transmit live television signals and telephone conversations across the Atlantic Ocean, was launched this day in 1962, inaugurating a new age in electronic communications.

1952 - The constitution of Eritrea, prepared by the United Nations in consultation with Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, was adopted.

1973 - The Bahamas gained independence from Britain within the Commonwealth.

1981 - CERN achieves 1st proton-antiproton beam collision (570 GeV)

1991 - Russian politician Boris Yeltsin was sworn into office as the country's first elected president.

2017 - NASA's Juno spacecraft makes closest ever pass over Jupiter's Great Red Spot at 9,000 kilometers overhead.

2018 - The final 4 boys and their coach are rescued from Tham Luang Nang Non cave, Thailand after being trapped there for 18 days by monsoon flooding

2019 - German automaker Volkswagen ended production of the Beetle, the first model of which had been introduced in 1938.

1. 1949 - Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Manohar Gavaskar is an Indian cricket commentator and former cricketer who represented India and Bombay from 1971 to 1987. Gavaskar is acknowledged as one of the greatest opening batsmen of all time.

2. 1951 - Rajnath Singh

Rajnath Singh is an Indian politician and lecturer who is serving as the 29th Defence Minister of India since 2019. He is currently the deputy Leader of the House, Lok Sabha since 2014. He was the 8th President of Bharatiya Janata Party from 2013 to 2014 and from 2005 to 2009.

1. 2009 - K. K. Srinivasan

Kushalnagar Krishnaswamy Srinivasan known as K. K. Srinivasan was an Indian radar officer who founded a pre-school for deaf children.
