It was signed on 26 June 1945, in San Francisco, at the conclusion of the United Nations Conference on International Organization, and came into force on 24 October 1945.


1975: Indian PM Indira Gandhi declares a state of emergency

The final decision to impose an emergency was proposed by Indira Gandhi, agreed upon by the president of India, and thereafter ratified by the cabinet and the parliament (from July to August 1975), based on the rationale that there were imminent internal and external threats to the Indian state.


1976 - Opening of CN Tower

CN Tower, which opened to the public this day in 1976, was—at 1,815 feet (553 metres)—the world's tallest freestanding structure until being surpassed in 2007 by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.


1992 - India leases Tin Bigha corridor to Bangladesh

The Tin Bigha corridor, a strip of land in India on the border with Bangladesh was leased to Bangladesh on 26 June 1992 so that it could access the Dahagram–Angarpota Bangladeshi enclaves within Indian Territory.

1. 1838 - Bankim Chandra Chatterjee

Bankim Chandra Chatterjee was one of the biggest Indian novelists, poets and journalists. He was creator of Vande Mataram. He was the author of the 1882 Bengali language novel Anandamath, which is one of the landmarks of modern Bengali and Indian literature.

2. 1985 - Arjun Kapoor
Arjun Kapoor is an Indian actor who works in Hindi films. Born to the Surinder Kapoor family, he is the son of film producer Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie.

1. 2004 - Yash Johar

Yash Johar was an Indian film producer and the founder of Dharma Productions. His films featured lavish sets, were often set in "exotic" locations, and incorporated Indian traditions and family values. He is the father of Karan Johar, now a noted filmmaker himself.
