Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a yoga session for the first time at UN Headquarters on the 9th International Day of Yoga to be celebrated on June 21. Since 2015, June 21 has been designated as the International Day of Yoga to promote awareness of the advantages of the age-old practice known as yoga.


World Music Day

Every year World Music Day is celebrated on 21 June to promote music on an international level and is a way to establish global harmony through music.


World Hydrography Day

World Hydrography Day is observed on 21 June every year to increase public awareness about hydrography science. Every year the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) and its international members celebrate this day.

1576 - Mughal army defeated Rana Pratap in the battle of Haldighat.


1834 - American inventor and businessman Cyrus McCormick patents the reaping machine


1945 - Japanese forces defeated on Okinawa

Japanese resistance on Okinawa was finally crushed this day in 1945, less than three months after U.S. troops landed there as the last stepping-stone before the planned assault on Japan's main islands in World War II.


1948 - Chakravorty Rajgopalachari became the First Indian Governor-General of India.


1982 - Prince William of Wales (later Prince William, duke of Cambridge) was born to Charles, prince of Wales and heir to the British throne, and Diana, princess of Wales.


1991 - P. V. Narasimha Rao becomes Prime Minister of India as head of a Congress Party minority government.


2004 - SpaceShipOne becomes the first privately funded spaceplane to achieve spaceflight.


2006 - Pluto's newly discovered moons are officially named Nix and Hydra


2009 - Greenland became self-governing as an expanded home-rule agreement with Denmark took effect.


2017 - After Mohammed bin Nayef, Mohammed bin Salman was appointed as the new successor of Saudi Arabia on this day.


Famous People's Birthday on June 21

1. 1977 - Mukti Mohan
 Mukti Mohan is an Indian dancer and actress. She participated in Star One's dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha 2 and emerged as the winner.

2. 1983 - Abhinandan Varthaman

Gp Capt Abhinandan Varthaman VrC is an Indian Air Force fighter pilot who was held captive in Pakistan for 60 hours after his aircraft was shot down in an aerial dogfight.
