World Sickle Cell Awareness Day

World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is held annually since 2008 to raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and the struggle that the sufferers or a patient family face. This day was officially adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations, to recognise SCD as a public health concern.


World Sauntering Day

This day is observed annually to make people remind to slow down and enjoy life as possible instead of rushing always. This day also reminds us to take it easy, take time to smell roses, take time to see nature that is so beautiful, look at the sky and enjoy life.


1931 - 1st photoelectric cell installed commercially West Haven, Connecticut


1941 - US President Franklin Roosevelt signs the Two Ocean Navy Expansion Act


1953 - Rosenbergs executed for espionage

After the failure of court appeals and of a worldwide campaign for mercy, husband and wife Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were put to death this day in 1953, becoming the first American civilians to be executed for espionage.


1961 - Great Britain recognized Kuwait's independence.


1963 - Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to travel in space, returned to Earth in the spacecraft Vostok 6.


1966 - Political party Shiv Sena was founded in Mumbai.

Shiv Sena is a right-wing Marathi regionalist and Hindu ultranationalist political party in India founded in 1966 by Bal Thackeray. Shiv Sena's election symbol is the Bow and Arrow. It uses the saffron colour in its flag and a image of a roaring tiger.


1970 - Russian cosmonauts Andriyan Nikolayev and Vitaly Sevastyanov return after 18 days in Soyuz 9, the longest crewed flight by a solo spacecraft.


1976 - US Viking 1 goes into Martian orbit after 10-month flight from Earth.


1981 - India's APPLE satellite, 1st to be stabilized on 3 axes, launched. Ariane Passenger Payload Experiment (APPLE).


2006 - Prime ministers of several northern European nations participate in a ceremonial "laying of the first stone" at the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Spitsbergen, Norway.


2018 - Canada's Senate votes to legalize recreational marijuana use, first major economy to do so.

1. 1947 - Salman Rushdie
Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie CH FRSL is an Indian-born British-American novelist. His work often combines magic realism with historical fiction and primarily deals with connections, disruptions, and migrations between Eastern and Western civilizations, typically set on the Indian subcontinent.

2. 1954 - Yashodhara Raje Scindia
Yashodhara Raje Scindia is an Indian politician and Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Technical Education and Skill Development and Employment of Madhya Pradesh. She is also the former Minister for Commerce, Industries and Employment in Government of Madhya Pradesh.

3. 1958 - Mukesh Khanna
Mukesh Khanna is an Indian actor, talk show host and producer who works in Hindi language films and television shows.

4. 1970 - Rahul Gandhi
Rahul Gandhi is an Indian politician and a former member of the Indian Parliament, who represented the constituencies of Amethi, Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad, Kerala in the Lok Sabha. He is a member of the main opposition party, the Indian National Congress and was the party president from December 2017 to July 2019.

5. 1985 - Kajal Aggarwal
Kajal A Kitchlu is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Telugu and Tamil language films. She has worked in more than 50 films and has received two South Indian International Movie Awards.
