Nelson Mandela International Day
Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela's birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010.
1857 - Universities of Calcutta, Bombay and Madras Established
1925 - Adolf Hitler's Autobiography Published
The autobiography of Adolf Hitler was written in prison when he was serving a treasonous sentence. On this day in 1925, the first volume of Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler's political manifesto that would ultimately become the Third Reich of Germany's Nazi religion, was released. The second volume followed two years later.
1980 - First Indian Satellite Launched
Rohini 1, 1st Indian satellite launched into orbit. The Indian Space Research organisation launched the Rohini series of satellites (ISRO). Three of the four satellites in the Rohini series successfully entered orbit after being launched by a satellite launch vehicle (SLV).
