1838 - Coronation of Queen Victoria
Queen Victoria of Britain was crowned at Westminster Abbey in London. Her 63-year and 7-month reign, also known as the Victorian era, was the longest ever by a British monarch. Within the United Kingdom, it was a time of significant industrial, political, scientific, and military development, and the British Empire significantly expanded during this time. She was given the extra title of Empress of India by a decision of the British Parliament in 1876.
1914 - Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian(Austria) throne, and his consort, Sophie, were assassinated by Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo, Bosnia, precipitating the outbreak of World War I.
1919 - The Treaty of Versailles was signed at the Palace of Versailles in France, signifying the end of World War I.
1969 - Police carry out an early morning raid on gay bar Stonewall Inn, Greenwich Village, NY; about 400 to 1,000 patrons riot against police, it lasts 3 days. Beginning of the modern LGBT rights movement.
1996 - The Constitution of Ukraine is signed into law.
2022 - Rocket Lab launches NASA's CAPSTONE, a microwave-oven sized CubeSat spacecraft from Mahia peninsula, New Zealand, to orbit the Moon, research for future Gateway and Artemis missions
