1633 - Accused of heresy by the Inquisition, Galileo was forced to recant his support of the Copernican system, which held that the Sun was the centre of the solar system. 


1815 - 2nd abdication of Napoleon Bonaparte (after the Battle of Waterloo)


1897 - The Chapekar brothers and Mahadeo Vinayak Ranade assassinated British colonial officers Charles Walter Rand and Lt. Charles Egerton Ayerst.


1906 - Sweden Adopted Its Flag

The flag of Sweden is adopted. Sweden's national flag is a light blue field with a yellow or gold Nordic cross (a horizontal cross reaching to the margins, with the crossbar closer to the hoist than the fly). The Nordic cross has long been associated with Christianity.


1918 - The Hammond Circus Train Wreck

Known as one of the most disastrous accidents, It was when the locomotive engineer fell asleep and ran his train into the rear of another. Over 80 people died in that accident and even more injured.


1939 - Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Left Congress

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose separated from Congress and established the Forward Bloc. The AIFB (All India Forward Bloc) is an Indian left-wing nationalist political party. It was founded in 1939 as a faction of the Indian National Congress, led by Subhas Chandra Bose.


1941 - Germany invades the Soviet Union

The Germans' apparently successful onslaught quickly turned into a disaster when wintry circumstances and intense Soviet opposition resulted in heavy losses and compelled them to flee.


1946 - Speaking at a prayer meeting in New Delhi, Gandhi calls on the South African government to stop 'hooliganism' by Whites.


1978 - Largest Moon of Pluto Discovered

Charon, the largest moon of Pluto, was discovered. It was discovered in 1978 at the US Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., using photographic plates from the Flagstaff Station of the US Naval Observatory (NOFS).


2013 - Mount Fuji Becomes World Heritage Site

Unesco listed Japan's Mount Fuji as a World Heritage site because of its cultural value in Japanese society. The volcano is an iconic image in Japanese arts and literature and is located just outside of Tokyo.


2014 - Gujarat ‘Rani Ki Vav’ and Himachal’s ‘Great Himalayan National Park’ were included in the World Heritage List.

1. 1932 - Amrish Puri
 The very famous Amrish Puri who is the Indian leading theatre and film actor birthed on this day. The actor is widely known for his work and usually played the role of villain. He played a great role in the Indian theatre movement in 1960. He passed away in 2005 and is remembered for his work in Mr. India as Mogambo.

2. 1974 - Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar
Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, known professionally as Vijay, is an Indian actor and singer who works predominantly in Tamil cinema. He is among the highest paid actors in India and has featured in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list on seven occasions.

3. 1982 - Karan Grover
Karan Grover is an Indian actor who primarily works in Hindi television. He made his acting debut in 2004 with Saarrthi as Arjun Goenka. Grover is best known for his portrayal of Karan Prasad in Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, Dr. Rohit Sippy in Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum and Angad Maan in Udaariyaan.
