1. 1742 - Benjamin Franklin invents his Franklin stove

The Franklin stove, invented in 1742, is a metal-lined fireplace that stands in the middle of a room. It has rear baffles for improved airflow. It provides more heat and less smoke than an open fireplace and uses less wood.


2. 1770 - Great barrier reef discovered

Captain James Cook recorded the first written descriptions of the Great Barrier Reef in his journal during a voyage in 1770. Aboard HM Endeavour he sailed up the east coast of Australia. On the 19th of April, Captain James Cook and his crew first laid eyes on Australia.


3. 1866 - The Agra High Court (now the Allahabad High Court) is established in India


4. 1975 - Greece adopts constitution

The Constitution of Greece was created by the Fifth Revisionary Parliament of the Hellenes in 1974, after the fall of the Greek military junta and the start of the Third Hellenic Republic. It came into force on 11 June 1975 (adopted two days prior) and has been amended in 1986, 2001, 2008 and 2019.


5. 1985 - Russian space probe Vega 1 lands on Venus

The Vega 1 Lander/Balloon capsule entered the Venus atmosphere (125 km altitude) at 2:06:10 UT (Earth received time; Moscow time 5:06:10 a.m.) on 11 June 1985 at roughly 11 km/sec. At approximately 2:06:25 UT the parachute attached to the landing craft cap opened at an altitude of 64 km.


6. 2001 - Oklahoma City bomber executed

Timothy McVeigh—convicted of the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, which killed 168 people in what was then the worst terrorist attack in the U.S.—was executed this day in 2001.


7. 2009 -  The World Health Organization declares H1N1 swine flu to be a global pandemic, the first such incident in over forty years.


8. 2019 -  Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces plan to ban single-use plastics by 2021.



Famous People's Birthday on June 11

1. 1897 - Ram Prasad Bismil Birthday
Ram Prasad Bismil was an Indian poet, writer, revolutionary and an Indian freedom fighter who participated in the Mainpuri Conspiracy of 1918, and the Kakori Conspiracy of 1925, and fought against British Raj.

2. 1909 - K.S Hegde Birthday
K.S Hegde, an Indian jurist and politician who served as a judge in the Supreme Court of India and later as the 7th Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Hegde founded the Nitte Education Trust.

3. 1948 - Lalu Prasad Yadav Birthday
Lalu Prasad Yadav, an Indian politician, a former Chief Minister of Bihar, former Union Minister of Railways, a former Member of Parliament of the 15th Lok Sabha, and the president of the political party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). He gets into politics at Patna University as a student leader and in 1977 at the age of 29, was elected as the youngest member of the Lok Sabha for the Janata Party. Lalu Prasad became the Chief Minister of Bihar in 1990.

4. 1990 - Savita Punia Birthday
Savita Punia is an Indian field hockey player and is a member of the India women's national field hockey team. She hails from Haryana and plays as the goalkeeper. Savita Punia is also known as "Great Wall of India" because of her phenomenal and outstanding performance in 2020 Summer Olympics.
