7 June – World Food Safety Day

1. 1893 - Mahatma Gandhi carried out the first act of civil disobedience

On 7th June 1893, Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa was asked to shift from the first class compartment of a train owing to his colour to which he refused. This act of standing up against injustice was his first act of civil disobedience and a turning point in history.


2. 1975 - The first Cricket World Cup begins

The 1975 Cricket World Cup was the inaugural men's Cricket World Cup, and the first major tournament in the history of One Day International (ODI) cricket.


3. 1979 - India's second satellite Bhaskara I was launched with a Soviet rocket

India’s first experimental remote sensing satellite, Bhaskara-I was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on 7th June 1979.

Mahesh Shrinivas Bhupathi is an Indian former doubles world No. 1 tennis player. In 1997, he became the first Indian to win a major tournament. With his win at the 2006 Australian Open mixed doubles, he joined the elite group of eight tennis players who have achieved a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles.

Edward Michael "Bear" Grylls OBE is a British adventurer, writer, television presenter and businessman. He first drew attention after embarking on a number of adventures, and then became widely known for his television series Man vs. Wild.

3. 1975 -  Ekta Kapoor's Birthday
Ekta Kapoor is an Indian television producer, film producer and director who works in Hindi cinema and soap opera. She is the joint managing director and creative head of Balaji Telefilms Limited, which was founded in 1994.
