National Broadcasting Day

On this day in 1927, Daily radio transmission broadcasting in India started by the first commercial radio station – the Bombay Radio Station. This day is known as National Broadcasting Day.


1555 - Humayun Defeated Sikandar Suri

On this day in 1555, Humayun reconquers Delhi after defeating Sikandar Suri.


1903 - Ford Motor Company sold its first automobile, a Ford Model A; five years later it introduced the hugely influential Model T.


1952 - Egyptian monarchy toppled by coup

On this day in 1952, the Free Officers, a nationalistic military group led by Colonel Gamal Abdel Nasser, engineered a coup that overthrew King Farouk I of Egypt, ending the monarchy and bringing Nasser to power.


1999 - With the launch of NASA's orbiter Columbia, U.S. astronaut Eileen Collins became the first woman to command a space shuttle mission.


2015 - NASA's Kepler mission announces discovery of the most Earth-like planet yet - Kepler-452b, 1,400 light years from Earth

1. 1856 - Bal Gangadhar Tilak

Bal Gangadhar Tilak, endeared as Lokmanya, was an Indian nationalist, teacher, and an independence activist. He was one third of the Lal Bal Pal triumvirate. Tilak was the first leader of the Indian independence movement. The British colonial authorities called him "The father of the Indian unrest".

2. 1906 - Chandra Shekhar Azad
Chandra Shekhar Azad, was an Indian revolutionary who reorganised the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) under its new name of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).

3. 1975 - Suriya
Saravanan Sivakumar, known by his stage name Suriya, is an Indian actor and film producer. He primarily works in Tamil cinema where he is one of the highest paid actors.

Famous Death Anniversary on July 23

1. 2012 - Captain Lakshmi Sahgal

A great freedom fighter and officer of the Azad Hind Fauj. She was the Minister of Women’s Affairs in the Azad Hind government. While in the army shoulder to shoulder with Subhash Chandra Bose, Lakshmi Sehgal did many commendable works.
