June 01 - World Milk Day 

Every year, June 1 is marked as World Milk Day in recognition of the importance of milk as a universal food. The day was established in 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.


1. 1884 - The East India Company was dissolved
The East India Company itself was formally dissolved by Act of Parliament in 1874. Thus began the British Raj, direct imperial rule of India by the British state.

2. 1930 - The iconic Deccan Queen Deccan Queen was introduced
India's first deluxe train, the iconic Deccan Queen, had its maiden run on June 1, 1930, which was a major mark in the history of the Great Indian Peninsula (GIP) Railway, the predecessor of Central Railways.

3.1955 - The Untouchability (Offences) Act was introduced
The Untouchability (Offences) Act was introduced in Lok Sabha on 8th May 1955 and passed in both houses. The act came into force on 1st June 1955. On 2nd September, 1976 the act was amended and renamed as The Protection of Civil Rights Act.

4. 1984 - Operation Blue Star Enforced
Operation Blue Star was the codename given for the daring operation carried out by the Indian Armed Forces between 1 June 1984 and 8 June 1984, to remove Damdami Taksal leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his followers from the buildings of the Golden Temple, the holiest site of Sikhism, in Amritsar, Punjab.

5. 1980 - Debut of CNN
Ted Turner's Cable News Network (CNN), headquartered in Atlanta, began 24-hour live news broadcasts this day in 1980 and gained worldwide attention in 1991 for its around-the-clock coverage of the Persian Gulf War.

6.1985 - Dinesh Karthik, Indian cricketer Birthday
Krishnakumar Dinesh Karthik is an Indian professional cricketer and commentator who nationally plays for the Indian Cricket Team and currently in Indian Premier League playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He is also the current captain of the Tamil Nadu cricket team in domestic cricket.

7. 2002 - The Czech Republic became the first country to enact a law to address light pollution; all outdoor fixtures were required to have a shield that prevented light from extending above the horizontal.

8. 2001 - Nepalese Royal Massacre: Crown Prince Dipendra of Nepal slaughters his parents, two siblings, and five other family members during dinner at the Narayanhiti Palace, in Katmandu.

9. 2009 - Air France Flight 447 crashes into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Brazil on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. All 228 passengers and crew were killed.

10. 2022 - Turkey officially changes its name to Türkiye at the United Nations and internationally

2. 1970 - R. Madhavan Birthday
Ranganathan Madhavan (born 1 June 1970) is an Indian actor, writer, director, and producer who predominantly appears in Tamil and Hindi films and few films in Telugu. Over the course of his career, he has been a recipient of several accolades including Four Filmfare Awards South and one Tamil Nadu State Film Award

 1. 1996 - Neelam Sanjiva Reddy Death Anniversary
Neelam Sanjiva Reddy (19 May 1913 – 1 June 1996) was an Indian politician. He was the sixth President of India from 1977 to 1982. He was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1967 to 1969 and again in 1977.
